True! “The possessions we choose to keep and the way that we organize them can reveal insights into our personality, our values, and our emotional state.” I went to a relative’s house where they had mounds and mounds of letters and paperwork and so many plastic grocery bags. They kept saying, “This is useful.” Fortunately, we were able to convince them to get rid of some old paperwork by offering to sort, recycle, and shred for them.
The typical seven step life journey is:
1) Have lesser stuff than mind wants,
2) Feel impoverished and shop for that dopamine rush,
3) Buy things to feel and project a show you are doing well,
4) Make a mess of your physical environment,
5) Start losing your peace of mins all thanks to useless things,
6) Fight with those who try to help you improve by reduction and
7) Die one day and someone will throw it all out!
Remedy:
1) Invest in self to make purchases to express than impress,
2) Need less & live more, and
3) Understand maximalism < minimalism < essentialism < intentionalism
I was looking for something to help me with the block I have around cleaning. I already know that it’s rooted in my abandonment issues and the severe neglect I experienced, as well as the fact that the depression I experienced from said abuse seemed to bring more approval from my parents than any success. I know I can clean because I’ve done it before, but it was usually with some kind of substance, including lots of caffeine. Now that I am in recovery, I’m working on feeling my feelings around this issue and your video helped me realize that low self esteem is a big part of it. As a little kind it was hard to feel confident that I could take care of myself… because I was a little kid. I’m learning right now to recognize that and heal it by realizing that as an adult I am capable and I don’t have people who want me to the fail hovering over me anymore. Also, just thank you in general for this video. Well written and concise. 💜
